PhD Student
Cardiff University

Biography

I moved to Cardiff in September 2016 to start my PhD with WISERD, prior to this I lived in East Yorkshire. In 2013, I graduated with a first class BA (Hons) in Sociology from the University of Hull and three years later, in January 2016, I graduated from the University of York with a Masters (by research) in Sociology, where I had completed my thesis entitled ‘Exploring volunteers’ accounts of their participation’.

Research Interests

My research interests are based around volunteers and volunteerism. My undergraduate dissertation researched volunteers in a small Community Advice Centre in East Yorkshire and my Master’s degree explored volunteers in 5 different national charities.

Current Research

For my PhD research I am exploring the role of businesses in schools in Wales. I am looking to understand how and why businesses are carrying out their employee engagement programs within schools and how this impacts the business themselves, the schools and the pupils. The research is being conducted through a series of interviews with businesses, schools and school pupils.
