This event aims to address the scope for and/or limits of The Foundational Economy Challenge Fund, under which the Welsh Government funded 52 local projects that aimed to promote the health, wealth or wellbeing of people and places in Wales.

Lee Waters MS, Deputy Minister for Economy and Transport, Welsh Government, is in charge of the programme and he will reflect on the lessons learned from a government standpoint.

Debbie Green will reflect on the lessons learned from a housing association leader.

As an adviser to national ministers and local project teams, Professor Julie Froud is a member of the WISERD team on civic stratification and civil repair and she will reflect on the significance of the Challenge Fund as a tool of social innovation and foundational renewal in the context of post-pandemic Wales.

Professor Kevin Morgan, School of Geography and Planning, Cardiff University, will chair the event.

The audience will be invited to engage with each speaker in a Q and A session.
