WISERD Organises Event to Showcase Longitudinal Research in Wales

On 7 May 2013, WISERD held a Longitudinal Research Event, designed to showcase some examples of longitudinal research taking place in and on Wales.

The Exploiting the Potential of Longitudinal Research Resources for Wales seminar took place earlier this month with great success.

The aim of the event was to contribute to the development of longitudinal research capacity within Wales, particularly with regards to policy related research, by demonstrating what is possible to an audience of academic and Welsh Government colleagues.

The session, led by Professor Ian Rees Jones, created a platform for this type of research to be presented and explored along with a Welsh overview of the England and Wales Longitudinal Study from Dr Nicola Shelton, University College London.

Speakers and topics included:

  • The Social Participation and Identity Project in Wales: research related to the National Child Development Cohort Study (Andrew Miles, CRESC, Manchester)
  • Unlocking the Potential of the Welsh Local Labour Force Survey: An Investigation into Labour Market Transitions in Wales (Melanie Jones, Swansea University)
  • Exploring the Potential of the British Household Panel Survey and Understanding Society for the Purposes of Welsh Level Analysis (Rhys Davies, WISERD, Cardiff University)
  • Caerphilly Health and Social Needs Longitudinal Study (Dr James White, Cardiff University)
  • Growing up in 21st Century Britain: spatial analysis of the Millennium Cohort Study (Chris Taylor, WISERD, Cardiff University)
  • SAIL longitudinal research project

Following the success of the seminar, further similar events are being developed for the coming months.
