WISERD researchers are hosting three ESRC Festival of Social Science events, covering youth unemployment and civil society under devolution, local community food systems and a citizen science project exploring air quality monitoring.
Youth unemployment and civil society under devolution: a sub-state comparison
11th November 2021
This online event hosted by Dr Giada Lagana, based at Cardiff University, looks at the research undertaken on involvement of civil society organisations in youth unemployment policy and provision across the four devolved nations of the UK with civil society organisation representatives, actively involved in implementing and coordinating youth unemployment programmes and initiatives.
Local community food systems: making our food more sustainable and resilient
16th November 2021
This online event, hosted by Dr Bernd Bonfert, WISERD Research Associate, welcomes an expert panel to share their experiences and insights into the work, benefits and challenges of community-based food systems. Participants are encouraged to ask questions and find out about what opportunities community food systems could provide for them.
Our Air, Our Pollution: A citizen science project tracking air pollution in South Wales
11th November 2021
This event will be run in partnership with the Barry Citizen Science Projects Team and Cardiff University. Participants will learn how to assemble an air quality monitor and collect their own data on local air quality. This data will contribute to Barry Citizen Science Projects Team work on airborne pollution.
This event is open to Barry Citizen Science Projects Team members only.
The ESRC Festival of Social Science is an annual, UK-wide, free celebration of the social sciences, running from 1–30 November. This year, events will be themed around social science and the environment, to reflect the forthcoming COP26 climate change conference.
