The May 2026 election to Senedd Cymru resulted in a transformation of Wales’s electoral and political landscape. Join us to get the newest data and analysis from experts at Swansea, Aberystwyth and Cardiff Universities.

Dr. Anwen Elias, Dr. Mohsin Hussain and Dr. Bettina Petersohn from the Welsh Election Study 20206 will present public opinion data from before, during and after the election, to help understand how Wales voted on the 7th of May. They’ll explore attitudes towards democracy and the reforms to how the Senedd is elected, and the key issues that mattered in this election and how this informed voters’ choices. They’ll also present data about people’s attitudes towards the places and communities where they live, questions which have been asked for the first time in the Welsh Election Study 2026.

Dr Keighley Perkins and Dr Maxwell Modell will share insights from a new Cardiff University report examining public service media coverage of the 2026 Senedd Election. They will bring together detailed analysis of TV news, online coverage and social media output to explain how Welsh broadcasters rose to the challenge of reporting an election with six larger parties, explaining a new electoral system and executing their first fully digitally integrated election coverage strategy. Ultimately, they will ask if the time has come to rethink the rules broadcasters follow during elections to adapt to an increasingly fragmented, multi-party political system.
