THREE-DAY WORKSHOP: Students will ideally be in Years 3 and 4 of their PhD programme and have completed their data collection, i.e. they will be ready to plan, and begin your their publishing ‘career’. The focus is on understanding the processes of reviewing and refereeing publications and submissions of others and on preparing their own work for submission to journals and book publishers.
Session 1: 16th May 2013, 2pm – 5pm
Session 2: 17th May 2013, 10am – 3pm
Session 3: 18th May 2013, 10am – 3pm
Students learnt about the refereeing processes that lie ‘behind’ the peer reviewed journal and the published book, by engaging in the actual tasks of refereeing papers and book proposals. Students also learnt how to approach journals to solicit offers of book reviews and write book reviews, how to research journals and write properly tailored submissions; and how to research book publishers and prepare a book proposal that will be treated seriously.
