Presented by Nick Bearman

In this two part introductory course we will give you an overview on how GIS works, and what we can and can’t do with spatial data. We will use a variety of different data sources including some 2021 Census data for Wales. We assume no prior knowledge of GIS and will explain how to get data into the GIS as well as how to produce maps using your own data.

The key GIS skills we will cover are loading shapefiles into QGIS, including shape files and geopackages, joining data, creating choropleth maps and using the Print Layout tool in QGIS to create a map that can be included in a report or article.
