In 2019, the Welsh Government announced its intention to become a ‘Nation of Sanctuary’ to help asylum seekers and refugees settle into their new communities. The term ‘sanctuary’ has now taken root and is used in political and public discourse in a range of sectors and by politicians, practitioners, policy makers and journalists in Wales. But, what exactly does the term ‘sanctuary’ mean? Is there such a thing as Welsh sanctuary? The aim of the session is to stimulate discussion on sanctuary in Wales and the role of citizens, organisations, and civil society in Wales in trying to create a ‘Nation of Sanctuary’.
