This workshop brought together two distinct but complementary studies concerned with applying narrative approaches to understanding experiences of climate change and the environment, which gave delegates the opportunity to work with the research teams and share in the analysis of their data.
The ESRC/EPSRC funded Energy Biographies project, at Cardiff University (www.energybiographies.org), brings together an interdisciplinary team with expertise in social psychology, geography and sociology, using qualitative longitudinal interview and multimodal methods with participants in social and community case locations in the UK.
The ESRC funded Family Lives and the Environment project, based at the Institute of Education, London, and University of Sussex, is part of the National Centre for Research Methods NOVELLA Node (Narratives of Varied Everyday Lives and Linked Approaches, www.novella.ac.uk). It applies a multi-method approach including interview, mobile and visual methods to examine the positioning and understanding of environment and environmental concerns within family members’ individual and collectively negotiated narratives of everyday lives and practices in India (Andhra Pradesh) and England.
In the workshop delegates carried out narrative analysis of samples of data from the two studies, including data from newly completed fieldwork in Andhra Pradesh.
