To commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the election of the first majority Labour government in 1945, the School of History, Welsh History and Archaeology hosted a conference on the history of the Labour Party: ‘Shaping the Labour Party’.

This Conference explored the themes and influences that shaped the Party’s direction since its inception and focused not only on the parliamentary party, but also the wider party, labour movement and other groups and individuals that have influenced development of Party policy and direction, both in government and opposition. We welcomed papers on any aspect of the history of the Labour Party, with a particular focus on influences, actions and events that have shaped policy.

Keynote Speakers: Professor Steven Fielding, Nottingham University and Professor Andrew Thorpe, Exeter University
