Course Leaders: Dr Mamata Parhi, WISERD Swansea
The aim of this workshop was to introduce the widely used and powerful methodological tools of Social Network Analysis. The workshop began with a general introduction to the distinct goals and perspectives of network analysis, followed by a practical discussion of network data, covering issues of data entry, visualization of datasets, transformation of datasets and mathematical/computer representation. We then took up the methods of detection and description of structural properties, such as centrality, cohesion, subgroups, etc. The training also introduced the software package UCINET along with its built-in network visualisation software (NETDRAW).
The workshop covered:
- The importance of SNA and its applicability across disciplines
- Basic philosophy and principles of SNA
- Operational details of SNA methodology
- Simple analysis of network data using UCINET and NETDRAW
