In the third workshop of the series we returned to looking at research methods based modules. Having explored what the appropriate level of introductory social statistics was in Workshop 1, in this workshop we followed the UG students’ progression into Stage 2 and focused on data collection and data analysis.

It began by comparing notes on teaching survey design and data analysis. Lack of curriculum space means that these topics are often combined into one generic ‘Research Methods’ module, and we explored ways how this could be taught most effectively and how learning activity and assessment can be designed to best engage with students’ needs and interests, using real life research and data.
