Overview
Over recent years housing has moved up political, public and academic agendas and yet policy and research are currently not well aligned. As we move into the second decade of devolved government in Wales, the WISERD Housing Research Network, the Welsh Government and Shelter Cymru co-hosted a conference which aimed to present recent housing research in Wales and identify new directions for evidence-based policy and practice.
The Rt Hon Rhodri Morgan AM Cardiff West opened the event by reflecting on the the housing challenges faced by devolved Government in Wales.
The one-day conference deliberately sought to highlight the multi-disciplinary nature of housing research, with delegates able to choose from several themed sessions:
· Young People
· Multiple Exclusion
· Housing Strategy
· Poverty
· Housing Rights
· Older People.
The day concluded with a drinks reception, during which delegates will have an opportunity to view research posters presenting recent and ongoing housing-related studies conducted by students, academics and housing organisations in Wales.

Welsh Housing Quarterly, published by Cardiff University, is the only independent housing and regeneration magazine for and about Wales. It aims to inform, stimulate debate and provide practitioners with examples of effective practice.
Issue 81 of the magazine, which came out in early January 2011, will have research a theme and featured a number of articles by people who are presenting their work at the Foundations for the Future conference.
The WHQ website is where you will find information about subscribing to the magazine. If you would like to write an article for a future issue of the magazine, please contact the editor Tamsin Stirling at tamsin.stirling@dial.pipex.com or on 029 2045 0650.
