Alan Barrett is a Research Professor at the ESRI, Dublin, where he coordinates the research programme on migration. He has been a leading commentator on recent migration to and from Ireland as well on the Irish economy. He is the lead author and editor of the Quarterly Economic Commentary and an associate editor of the Economic and Social Review. He is a Research Fellow of the Institute for the Study of Labor, Bonn. He has also recently been appointed onto Ireland’s new Fiscal Advisory Council. Alan is currently on secondment at Trinity College Dublin where he is Project Director of The Irish Longitudinal Study of Ageing (TILDA). TILDA is a representative cohort of over 8,000 people aged 50 and over and resident in Ireland. The project aims to chart their health, social and economic circumstances of older people in Ireland over a 10-year period. Alan will talk about the TILDA dataset before presenting some results from a study he has undertaken using the data.
