Dr Igor Calzada has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence (SIR) at California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB) for the 2022-2023 academic year by the U.S. Department of State and coordinated by US-UK Fulbright Commission.

The Fulbright SIR Program review committee convened by IIE’s Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) and Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FFSB) has recommended Dr Calzada’s proposal to continue his research on digital citizenship based on this new book Emerging Digital Citizenship Regimes and launch a new Institute for Basque Studies (IBS). It will reflect a renewed approach of Basque Studies intersecting digital, urban, and political transformations.

Dr Calzada’s Fulbright SIR Award will further enhance WISERD’s international links and provide exciting opportunities for cultural and intellectual exchange and explore international research networks and connections between the USA, the UK, and Europe around Digital Foundational Economy (data/platform co-operatives and digital rights). Consequently, this award will serve to establish international networks through a three-way Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between (i) Wales (through WISERD/sbarc I spark) in the UK, (ii) California (CSUB/IBS) in the US, and (iii) key strategic institutions in the Basque Country (Mondragon co-operatives) in Spain and France.
