Bookings for the WISERD Annual Conference are now open

Delegate bookings for the WISERD Annual Conference 2015 are now open! Details about how to register can be found on our events page

The 2015 conference is the sixth annual WISERD conference, and follows on from five successful conferences, held in the Universities of Cardiff, Swansea, Bangor, South Wales and Aberystwyth.  Bringing practitioners, policy makers and social scientists together, WISERD conferences are established as one of the most important events in the social science calendar. This year’s event is being held at the magnificent Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, from 30th June – 2nd July.

This year’s conference includes a range of work-shops, presentations and exhibition sessions focused on the following key themes:

  • Education
  • Social Care, Health & Wellbeing
  • Civil Society
  • Inequalities
  • Data & Methods
  • Devolution
  • Language

We are delighted to confirm that both Will Hutton, writer and political economist, and Karl Wilding, Director of Public Policy at NCVO, will be attending the event as keynote speakers.

We will be running three exciting competitions this year:

ESRC Wales Doctoral Training Centre & Learned Society for Wales – Student Poster Competition
As in previous years, currently-registered PhD students attending the conference are invited to submit a poster. Posters will be displayed throughout the event so that all conference delegates can view them; and will be made available via the WISERD and Wales DTC websites following the conference*. The Learned Society for Wales is sponsoring a cash prize of £200 for best poster, and this will be awarded during the conference.

ESRC Wales Doctoral Training Centre– “3MEI” – Three-minute engagement/impact session and prize
This session adapts the well-known ‘Three minute thesis’ format. Currently-registered PhD students are invited to attend a specific session in the programme in which they can present (using one projected slide and in strictly no more than three minutes) an account of challenges and/or achievements in their research with respect to engagement and/or impact. The ESRC Wales DTC is sponsoring a prize for best ‘3MEI’ in the form of a selection of recent books from two leading social science publishers, up to the value of £150. This will be awarded during the conference.

WISERD/WCVA Collaborative Paper Competition
WISERD and the WCVA are delighted to announce a competition for the best paper developed in collaboration between a member of university staff or student, and a civil society organisation. Papers on all themes are welcome, and we particularly welcome papers with a focus on co-production and collaborative research. The winner will be announced at the WISERD 2015 Conference, and will receive a prize of £300. To enter, simply submit your paper proposal as normal, describing the nature of the collaboration in the summary section.
