This event looks at the benefits of community food systems.

The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the vulnerability of our global food system and driven many of us to look for more local, resilient and sustainable alternatives. Community food systems, such as community-supported agriculture and food hubs, are rapidly gaining attention because they promise to offer such alternatives. By building closer relationships between local producers and consumers, these systems offer support for small-scale and ecological food production, while giving people access to healthy, seasonal food from trusted sources.

Join us and listen to an expert panel share their experiences and insights into the work, benefits and challenges of community-based food systems and then have your chance to ask questions and reflect on what opportunities community food systems may provide for you.

Our speakers include:

o    Tony Little (Resilient and Local Food Systems Coordinator)
o    Dr Amber Wheeler (The Food Foundation)
o    Gerald Miles (CSA Caerhys Organic Community Agriculture)
o    Dr Giaime Berti (Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, Italian Local Food Policies Network)

This online event is hosted by Dr Bernd Bonfert, Research Associate at the Wales Institute for Social and Economic Research and Data, and forms part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science at Cardiff University.
