We would like to invite you to the latest WISERD Lunchtime Seminar, presented by Professor Matt Wall (Swansea University). The presentation will take place online (Microsoft Teams), on Tuesday 17 March, 12:30 – 13:30.

Professor Wall’s talk will focus on the roles of affect and non-rational processes in electoral behaviour. Focusing on the 2026 Welsh Election Study, he will outline the development of a new set of survey items designed to capture emotional responses to parties, leaders, issues, and democratic institutions during the 2026 Senedd election.

Professor Wall will sketch some early lines of theorisation for analysing forms of political irrationality, examining how emotions such as anger, enthusiasm, anxiety, and resentment shape political engagement and vote choice. By integrating affective politics into a major election study, Professor Wall and the team hope to deepen understanding of how citizens experience and navigate contemporary democratic competition.

If you would like to join the seminar online, have any questions, or would like to enquire about running your own WISERD Lunchtime Seminar, please contact wiserd.events@cardiff.ac.uk.
