Professor John Morgan gives seminars in Moscow

Moscow seminar

Professor John Morgan, Leverhulme Emeritus Fellow, gave two seminars in Moscow during October.

Professor Morgan, who was on a research visit to the Russian State Library as part of his Leverhulme project on UNESCO and other UN Specialized Agencies and the Cultural Cold War, spoke first at the Institute of Sociology, Russian Academy of Sciences. The seminar on ‘Civil Society, Social Change and Adult Learning’ was streamed to the Institute’s regional centres at St. Petersburg, Rostov on Don, and Yufa Bashkortostan, with around 400 people participating in total.

The second seminar on ‘Philosophy and Dialogue in Education’, was to Russian and international students and staff at the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia. This was founded in 1960 and later named in honour of Patrice Lumumba, first prime minister of the independent Democratic Republic of the Congo, murdered by political opponents in 1961.
