Alice’s research primarily involves the history of medicine, with a focus on Renaissance anatomy and Victorian neuroscience. She is particularly interested in the cultural and scientific depictions of sleep disorders such as sleep paralysis, lucid dreams, and hypnopompic hallucinations. She is represented by Donald Winchester at Watson, Little literary agency; her narrative non-fiction book, Night Terrors, will be published by Icon Books in 2022. She is also interested in comics, especially the portrayal of the body in manga. In March 2020, she was invited to give a talk at Wellcome Collection on her comparisons between Renaissance anatomical illustrations and Hajime Isayama’s manga series, Attack on Titan. She received her PhD from Aberystwyth University in 2018, under the supervision of Dr Jacqueline Yallop.
