Overview

This project was a joint venture with the Institute of Education, Centre for Longitudinal Studies and the ESRC Centre for Research on Socio-cultural change (Manchester University). The main study, funded by ESRC, undertook 180 qualitative interviews with cohort members of the 1958 National Child Development Study. In the first stage of the project WISERD was funded by WG to undertake an additional 60 interviews with a Wales sample.

Interviews were completed during 2010. As part of the second stage of the project, WISERD researchers and colleagues from the Institute of Education undertook analysis of interviews, looking at the qualitative interview data in relation to the quantitative longitudinal data generated by the NCDS to date. There was also the possibility of looking at the data comparatively in relation to the other nations of the United Kingdom.
