Foteini is a Research Associate that recently joined the WISERD Education project to explore risk factors and patterns of school exclusion using secondary administrative data from England and Wales, as part of the ESRC funded Excluded Lives Study. Outside of her WISERD work, Foteini has also worked with HealthWise Wales in Cardiff University, focusing on the linkage of health and lifestyle data and administrative data to answer questions about population health and wellbeing.
Foteini’s PhD thesis in the Centre for Public Health at Queen’s University Belfast incorporated a number of research projects, focusing on mental health epidemiology as well as investigating the use of secondary administrative data to address questions about mental health on a population level. A key focus of her research was on early life risk factors such as residential instability (involving household and area mobility) and later mental health outcomes. Across her PhD studies and Post-Doctoral positions, Foteini has collaborated with other research institutions (Ulster University; Swansea University), policy makers (Department for Communities), service providers (Health Trusts; All Wales Therapeutics & Toxicology Centre; Dementias Platform UK) and third-party collaborators (Ministry of Life, YMCA) to inform the dialogue around the health and social needs of people with mental ill health at a community level.
Foteini’s research interests include record linkage and data analysis, especially around issues regarding young people’s mental health and wellbeing at a population level. Additionally, she has been involved in different projects investigating carer burden and how it relates to their physical and mental health.
