Applications are invited for a three-year ESRC-funded PhD studentship linked to the WISERD ‘Civil Society’ research programme. The studentship, which will examine the contemporary social significance of literary representations of coal-mining communities, will commence in the Autumn of 2014.
While the studentship will be based at Cardiff University, the study is expected to make use of the opportunity to compare data from south Wales and the north of England, and is funded in a joint arrangement between two Doctoral Training Centres – The Wales DTC and the White Rose DTC.
Applicants will normally hold a first degree in a relevant subject (classification 2.1 or higher) and a relevant Masters qualification which includes substantial research methods training, though equivalent experience to the latter will also be considered.
