The Welsh Government has announced that it will be supporting four research studies into the economy of Wales by awarding them with Economic Research Grants. These grants have been designed to help develop research capacity and widen knowledge of the economy in Wales by encouraging innovative, smaller-scale economic research.
Researchers at WISERD will be involved in two of these four studies. ‘Exporting activity and productivity in Wales: a micro-economic analysis’ will be led by Dr Catherine Robinson who is based in WISERD at Swansea University. A second study ‘Unlocking the potential of the Welsh Labour Force Survey: An investigation into labour market transactions in Wales’ will be led by Dr Melanie Jones who is based in the School of Business and Economics at Swansea University. Melanie will be supported in this work by WISERD researchers Rhys Davies (WISERD, Cardiff) and Dr Stephen Drinkwater (WISERD Swansea).
Commenting on the awards, the First Minister said:
“These…studies address a range of significant and interesting aspects of the economy in Wales and promise to help fill important gaps in our knowledge base. I look forward to seeing the outcome of this work.”
The grants have been introduced on the recommendation of the Welsh Government’s economic research ‘think tank’ the Economic Research Advisory Panel.
