Niamh (pronounced ‘neev’), originally from Derry, Northern Ireland, is a Lecturer in Geospatial Science and PhD Researcher at the University of South Wales. She holds a BSc in Geography and an MSc in Environmental Conservation Management. Her PhD research aims to contribute to the preservation of Welsh traditional orchards and heritage apples through the creation of up-to-date spatial datasets and an exploration of the continuing role of these assets in contributing to biodiversity, climate resilience and preservation of community and cultural identity. This is multidisciplinary research drawing from interactions in human geography, social science, geospatial science and environmental conservation – it was inspired by the Heritage Lottery project ‘The Heritage of Orchards and Cider Making in Wales’, which Niamh worked on as a Project Assistant from 2016-2018. She has been teaching at USW since 2015, across multiple undergraduate and postgraduate courses, specialising in GIS and remote sensing applications in the Biological and Environmental Sciences.
