Jennifer Hampton and Esther Muddiman, WISERD

This seminar draws on data from across three WISERD projects – Children’s Worlds, WISERD Education Data Lab (WEDL), and WISERD Multi Cohort Study (WMCS) – to understand how children in Wales have been engaging in studying from home, both before and during the recent closure of schools earlier this year. After presenting representative data on the frequency and opportunity for home working children in Wales have in ‘normal’ times, we explore the newly accessed and collected data on home learning during the recent school closures. For the latter, we present administrative data from Hwb – the digital learning platform used across schools in Wales – alongside survey data collected from children from the WMCS schools, to consider the interaction with formal education during periods of lockdown.
