WISERD is working in partnership with NCRM to deliver training in Wales

This workshop will provide an in-depth discussion of analytical processes and considerations of mixed methods research. It will encourage participants to use their own quantitative and qualitative datasets to explore data analyses principles and logics, to practice data triangulation and data integration, and to consider the presentation of mixed methods research.

The course is suitable for PGR and ECR researchers who have designed a mixed methods research project and are at the stage of data analyses and presentation of findings. An understanding of research paradigms, mixed methods research design and quantitative and qualitative data collection is required for the workshop.

Participants can draw on their own data or use data provided – they should have access to quantitative and qualitative data and software packages of their choice such SpSS and NVivo.

The course covers:

  • Principles of Mixed Methods Research
  • Practicalities of Mixed Methods Research
  • Data Analyses principles and logics
  • Data triangulation and data integration
  • Presentation of Mixed Methods research and findings

Programme

27th May 13:00 – 15:00 Workshop 1:

  • 1 hour of outlining data analysis principles and logics, data triangulation and integration; 1 hour of applying these principles to participants’ own data

28th May 11:00 – 13:00 Workshop 2:

  • 1 hour outline of principles of data presentation; 1 hour of applying these principles

By the end of the course participants will:

  • Be familiar with the principles of mixed methods research
  • Be familiar with data analyses principles and logics and how to apply these to Mixed Methods research
  • Be familiar with data triangulation and integration and how to apply these to Mixed Methods research
  • Be able to present Mixed Methods research with confidence and skill
