WISERD is delighted to welcome Professor Jonathan Portes who will deliver an online lecture, Covid-19 and Brexit: where next for the UK economy?
The UK has just experienced the largest economic decline in living memory and has seen an unprecedented economic policy response. But the hard part comes now, as restrictions are lifted. What are the risks, both macroeconomic and microeonomic, and how should the government formulate policy? And how does the impact of the covid-19 crisis – both short and long-term – interact with the UK’s exit from the Brexit transition period in January 2021?
Jonathan Portes is Professor of Economics and Public Policy at the School of Politics & Economics at King’s College, London. He has previously served as Chief Economist at both the Department of Work and Pensions and the Cabinet Office. His current research concentrates on issues related to immigration and labour mobility and the economic implications of Brexit.
Jonathan’s book “What Do We Know and What Should We Do About Immigration?” can be found here: https://kclpure.kcl.ac.uk/portal/en/publications/immigrationwhat-do-we-know-and-what-should-we-do(d074237b-f5cf-42aa-9017-e18b1f89b265).html
