Who wants to be a social care worker? An analysis of linked workforce, education and census data.
This work aims to provide a better understanding of the characteristics and pathways into social care work of learners educated in Wales. The ‘crisis’ in the care workforce – both in terms of recruitment and retention – have raised significant concerns for the sector and its future. Linking social care workforce register to administrative education data and the UK Census 2011, I have examined pathways for 6 cohorts of school leavers (who completed Key Stage 4 between 2010/11 and 2015/16). In this session I present the demographic characteristics, educational pathways, household socio-economic classifications of learners who can be traced into registered social care occupations and reflect on implications for the future workforce.
Please share this calendar invite around with any colleagues you believe will be interested in the seminar or contact wiserd.events@cardiff.ac.uk if you would like to circulate the talk wider or are interested in presenting a lunchtime seminar yourself.
