Whilst the scale, scope and nature of social enterprises has been researched the challenges that they face, such as their interdependencies with the commercial sector and funding providers, remain unexplored (Huybrechts and Nicholls, 2013; Peattie and Morley, 2008). The growing significance of these organisations and the necessity to support their successful evolution to become self-sustaining and engage with the wider community of stakeholders, demands that their specific issues are identified and explored in detail.
In order to explore the interdependencies and vagaries of social enterprise the workshop was attended by representatives from academia, national government, local authorities, commercial organisations and social enterprises.

Event Objectives
- To improve our understanding of the interdependencies of the government, commerce and civil society, specifically in order to identify the tensions and challenges that social enterprises face in South Wales.
- Identify the practical issues that beset social enterprises in attempting to self-reliant, sustainable service providers.
