Simon Hatch, Carers Trust Wales
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a very significant and negative impact on thousands of unpaid carers in Wales. For many carers it has meant a struggle to access food and medicines and it has become harder to pay for the basics which support people in their caring role, such as utility bills and medical equipment.
Unpaid carers tell us that they have been ‘catapulted’ into a 24/7 caring role. There has been a very real impact on all aspects of carers’ lives, practically, financially and emotionally.
This presentation looks at the impacts we have seen over recent months and the concerns unpaid carers have as we approach winter. We will also consider what can be done to better support unpaid carers through the pandemic.
