The National Assembly for Wales’ Health, Social Care and Sport Committee heard evidence earlier today on the draft national dementia strategy, ‘Together for a Dementia Friendly Wales 2017 – 2022’. Organisations such as The Alzheimer’s Society, Age Cymru, the Wales Carers Alliance and representatives from a range of healthcare professions shared their views on how a new strategy can effectively support those living with dementia.
WISERD Director, Dr Ian Rees Jones and Research Associate Dr Alexandra Hillman are currently working on the ESRC-funded IDEAL study: ‘Improving the experience of dementia and enhancing active life: living well with dementia’. This longitudinal, mixed-method project studies the various factors that enable people to live well with dementia. She is undertaking qualitative research with people with dementia and their relatives/carers to gather detailed information about the lived experience of people with dementia and their families, what it means to live well with dementia and what factors are identified as impacting on their ability to live well.
