Having reflected upon the findings from the 2009 survey and recommendations made by the project team, WEFO have decided that the 2010 survey should consist of a single wave of data collection among a group of respondents who have been identified as having left an ESF funded course during 2010. The survey instrument for 2010 will remain largely unchanged compared to that used for the 2009 study. The 2009 Report recommended using the Labour Force Survey (or similar) to provide control groups for future surveys. The analytical programme for 2010 therefore now includes a component dedicated to exploring the potential of statistical matching for the evaluation of ESF. Professor Gerry Makepeace, a labour economist based at Cardiff University has joined the project team in order to provide expertise in this field.
