Andrew is a Software Developer / Researcher with expertise in the areas of computer science, software development and GIS. He has a BSc in Computer Games Development, an MSc in Computer Science at the University of South Wales and most recently completed his KESS funded PhD (part funded by Sport Wales) in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) titled: “Enhancing our understanding of accessibility to sporting facilities in Wales through geospatial analysis”. The PhD utilised open-source tools and data to assist in measuring multi-modal spatial access to services.
Andrew is on WISERD’s Data Team and his current research projects includes developing WISERD’s data portal / UK CaCHE Data Navigator, GIS-based analysis of public transport and spatial accessibility, development of data visualisation dashboards and application development.
Andrew was previously on the WISERD project: Inequalities, civic loss, and well-being, using innovative methods, including app-based surveys of spatial mobility and data linkages, to compare place-based and individual measures of accessibility, and explores how changing patterns of civic loss and gain relate to measures of health and well-being.
Andrew’s general research interests are within the development of spatial technologies and the application of Geographic Information Science (GIS), spatial accessibility and web-GIS. His research has been published in journals such as Transactions in GIS, Journal of rural studies and case studies of Transport Policy.
